U.S. plumbers · Minnesota and Washington

Renewal guidance, state by state.

Minnesota and Washington use different renewal cycles and license categories. This guide summarizes the findings in the supplied official-source research and links to the state agencies for current instructions.

01 · Minnesota DLI

The renewal date depends on the credential.

Minnesota DLI lists the contractor, journeyworker, master plumber, and registered unlicensed plumber requirements separately. License renewals are handled through iMS online application and renewal system.

$188 renewal fee

DLI requires a $25,000 surety bond. The reported insurance limits are $50,000 per person and $100,000 per occurrence for products liability, plus $10,000 for property damage.

Renew through iMS

DLI identifies iMS as its online application and renewal system. The supplied research does not establish a complete list of supporting documents or a downloadable renewal form for each credential.

02 · Washington L&I

Keep plumber certification separate from contractor registration.

A plumber's individual certification and a business's contractor registration are different credentials with separate renewal amounts and steps.

Individual plumber credential

Plumbing license / certification

Expiration
24 months after issuance
Reported renewal fee
$139.10

These figures refer to the plumber's individual credential, not a contractor registration. The supplied research does not establish the full renewal procedure, eligibility details, or continuing-education requirements.

Contractor registration

Reported renewal fee
$150.20
Mailed processing estimate
3–4 weeks after receipt
Bond, renewal dates on or after July 1, 2024
$30,000 general · $15,000 specialty
Liability coverage
$250,000 combined per occurrence

For mailed renewal, the research reports returning the renewal card with a check or money order for $150.20. Keep a current surety bond or assigned savings account and liability-insurance information on file. L&I must be listed as certificate holder for the liability insurance.

The supplied research reports annual insurance filing before the policy expires and automatic suspension if the filing is missed. L&I also says a registration can be suspended when required bond or insurance expires. The current bond figures above supersede the older $6,000 figure for renewal dates on or after July 1, 2024.

The research snapshot records a $69.50 reinstatement fee. The current L&I contractor-registration page I checked lists $70.90 instead. Confirm the amount and steps directly with L&I; this guide does not treat $69.50 as a current confirmed fee.

The research establishes a mailed renewal-card option but does not document all available renewal paths or a complete supporting-document list. Check L&I instructions for current options and documents.

03 · What the research does not establish

Use agency instructions for the complete renewal process.

The consulted research did not establish standalone downloadable renewal forms or complete renewal checklists for either state. It also did not establish the full supporting-document lists, Washington's online renewal path, or continuing-education and detailed eligibility requirements.

Use the state-agency links below to confirm current instructions for your credential. Do not treat this summary as a substitute for an agency checklist or filing instructions.
